{"id":340,"date":"2023-08-17T15:52:00","date_gmt":"2023-08-17T15:52:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/localhost\/FelipeZamana\/?p=340"},"modified":"2026-04-11T15:37:55","modified_gmt":"2026-04-11T15:37:55","slug":"what-makes-a-great-leader","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/felipezamana.com\/pt\/what-makes-a-great-leader\/","title":{"rendered":"What makes a great leader?"},"content":{"rendered":"<p id=\"ember61\">In my work, I cross paths with leaders and decision-makers all the time.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p id=\"ember62\">Every time during these encounters, I couldn&#8217;t help but notice what behaviors made some leaders more effective in promoting creativity among their followers, employees, and\/or colleagues.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p id=\"ember64\">Based on my own experience and observations, but also <a href=\"https:\/\/hbr.org\/2014\/12\/research-10-traits-of-innovative-leaders\">in research<\/a>, I listed some of the most indispensable characteristics these leaders have when dealing with themselves, with others, and with the world\/society.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p id=\"ember66\"><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p id=\"ember68\"><strong>Leaders with themselves<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>High standards of personal ethics<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p id=\"ember70\">They act with honesty and integrity, in all circumstances, especially when making decisions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Self-awareness and gratitude<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p id=\"ember72\">They understand and recognize their own strengths and weaknesses. Also, understand that a leader does not accomplish anything alone and knows how to demonstrate sincere gratitude for their peers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Learning and Change agility<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p id=\"ember74\">They demonstrate learning agility, adaptiveness, and creative problem-solving in a rapidly changing world to support their peers navigate through an uncertain future.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p id=\"ember75\"><strong>Leaders with others<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Respect and Empathy for others<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p id=\"ember79\">They always treat people with respect and demonstrate empathy and emotional intelligence. In addition, they create a culture that encourages and is always receptive to new ideas.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Clear and assertive communication<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p id=\"ember81\">They are able to listen and communicate authentically and transparently, presenting ideas with enthusiasm and conviction. Also, they always provide honest feedback to their peers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Display professional and technical expertise<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p id=\"ember83\">They \u201cwalk the talk\u201d: proactively work and engage with their peers through action.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Ability to delegate tasks and motivate people<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p id=\"ember85\">They build trust with their peers and delegate effectively to facilitate teamwork, build collaborative relationships, provide autonomy, and lead to better decision-making.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p id=\"ember86\"><strong>Leaders with the world<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Courage to make and support risk-taking decisions<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p id=\"ember90\">They understand that creativity and innovation often require some level of risk. Thus, they create a psychologically safe environment and be tolerant of others&#8217; mistakes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Social Responsibility and Accountability<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p id=\"ember92\">They are responsible for building more inclusive, tolerant, and sustainable societies through their work, in addition to taking responsibility for the possible consequences of their actions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Creative and Future-oriented Thinking<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p id=\"ember94\">They have a clear vision of the future, a sense of purpose, and meaning in the work. Also, they should help their peers to find new ways to achieve higher and better goals.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p id=\"ember95\"><strong>Can you identify these characteristics in yourself?<\/strong><br><strong>Can those whom you lead identify them in you?<\/strong><\/p>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>In my work, I cross paths with leaders and decision-makers all the time.
